We’re gearing up to enter the year of clear vision as 2020 is right around the corner! With that said, we know there’s no better place in the world to ring in the new year than in Times Square. New York City repeatedly hosts one of the biggest celebrations, which attracts over one million people to the heart of Manhattan. Whether you’re a first timer or a NYC veteran, we’ve listed some of the best spots in the city to watch the ball drop!
Get cozy with strangers in Times Square
This is obviously the hot spot for seeing the ball drop, but before you head out for the day - here are a few things to keep in mind. The ball actually drops from 1 Times Square at 42nd Street, but you have a wide viewing area from which you can choose to stand. The absolute prime viewing area is located in a space that is referred to by New Yorkers as, “The Bowtie.” This area is where Broadway and 7th Avenue intersect. Keep in mind - you can still see the ball along 7th Avenue all the way to 59th Street.NYS Pro Tip: the lower the street number, the better the view. Be sure to get to your spot super early, as people will start to line up in the morning just for a decent view at midnight.
Party it up at the Movies
No, you won’t be staring at the big screen on New Year’s Eve. Instead, the AMC Empire 25 hosts a party you won’t want to miss. The theater offers an unobstructed view of the ball drop, open bar with select tickets, live DJ performances, and a champagne toast at midnight. If you’re steering away from the party atmosphere and interested in some family fun, AMC Empire 25 has specific floors designed for children and parents. Watch movies all night long, munch on your favorite snacks, and play for fun in the arcade center.
Play & Stay at a Hotel
If you’ve ever been to the city, you know there’s a hotel on every corner. The majority of hotels around Times Square celebrate the occasion by hosting special events or parties. For example, The Knickerbocker Hotel sports a rooftop bar that is located a mere 150 feet from the shining ball, which gives you one of the closest views you can possibly get. While this one books fast, you can also find others that offer you prime viewing locations with a reservation!
When heading out for NYE, dress warmly, invite some friends, get ready to party, and pack those shades before you stare at that famous Waterford Crystal ball! From our family to yours - we wish you the happiest of holidays and great health in the new year. We look forward to seeing you in 2020!
