NYS Optical is the latest addition to the NYS Collection Eyewear family.
Over the next series of months we will be offering try-on centers at a select number of retail locations. Currently, you can try on an optical frame at two mall locations in Denver, Colorado. As we expand the NYS Optical Try-on Centers, we will be also offering optical eyewear directly on this site.
When getting a new pair of glasses, you will need a few pieces of information beginning with your prescription. When you receive an eye exam, request a copy of your prescription to be provided to you. This information is vital in creating a pair of glasses specific to your eyes. What often is not measured by your eye doctor is your pupillary distance (PD.) You can request that your eye doctor measures your PD and adds it to your prescription. Your PD is the distance between your pupils in millimeters. If the prescription lenses are not set at the same distance as the distance between your eyes, an unwanted prism is induced which may cause eyestrain. Prisms create a fishbowl effect. In lower prescriptions the amount of prism induced is usually of little consequence and will not cause eyestrain.
Once you have this information, selecting a frame online with NYS Optical is a 4-step process. First, select a frame online that you feel complements your style and look. NYS Optical features 30 styles unique to the optical line. After selecting a frame, you can then dictate what type of lens you would prefer. Polarized lenses are useful for prescription sunglasses whereas photochromic lenses are for those individuals who would want lenses to adjust to UV light. With or without your prescription and PD in hand, you can upload your information or have us contact your eye doctor directly.
