I have a prescription for contact lenses, can I use it to order my glasses?
Unfortunately, you cannot.  Your prescription for contact lenses differs from glasses.  Please contact your eye doctor for a glasses exam or inquire if you’ve had one already and acquire your glasses prescription.  Your eye doctor should be happy to accommodate you..
What is my PD and how do I measure it? My eye doctor did not include it on my prescription.
Your PD is the distance between your pupils in millimeters.  If the prescription lenses are not set at the same distance as the distance between your eyes an unwanted prism is induced which may cause eyestrain. In lower prescriptions the amount of prism induced is usually of little consequence and will not cause eyestrain.  Your eye doctor should have your PD on file and be able to provide it to you. In the alternative, it’s easily measured by following these steps:
  • Download the PD Ruler here, or use a ruler that has millimeter measurements. You can also use a ruler with centimeter measurements and simply multiply the result by 10 to get your millimeter measurement.
  • Stand about 8 inches (20 cm) away from a well-lit mirror with your face parallel and square to the mirror. Hold the ruler just below your eyes, keeping it exactly horizontal.
  • Close your left eye and align the ruler's zero (0) measurement to the center of your right pupil.
  • Without moving your head or the ruler, open your left eye and close your right eye. Read the millimeter line that lines up with the center of your left pupil. This is your PD measurement.*
  • Repeat these steps at least 3 to 5 times to get an accurate and consistent measurement. Make sure your head and the ruler do not move after lining up the zero (0) measurement with your right pupil until you note your measurement. Ask a friend to help if you are having trouble.
  • *Note: These instructions are for getting your Distance PD measurement. If you require prescription bifocal glasses then you will also need your "Near PD", which is calculated by subtracting 3mm from this Distance PD measurement.
I was given two numbers for pupillary distance (PD). Which one do I use?
If your eye doctor provided two numbers, they are either distance and reading pupillary distance (PD), or right (OD) and left (OS) PD.  Let’s say your numbers are 63 and 60.  The former, which is always higher, is for distance, and the latter, which is always lower, is for near-vision reading only.   Another example: If your numbers are 33.5/32.5, your PD was taken monocularly, meaning one eye at a time. The first number is for your right eye (OD); the second is for your left eye (OS).
Can my eye doctor fax or email you my prescription?
Absolutely.  Have your eye doctor fax your prescription to 732.429.1538 or email it to lbellardino@nyscollection.com.  Just make sure to include your order number, first and last name and your date of birth.  You can also take a picture of it and email it to lbellardino@nyscollection.com or simply upload it through our website.  Calling your eye doctor will add up to 2 business days to your order process.
I don’t have my prescription. Can you please contact my eye doctor for me?
Of course.  Please enter you eye doctor’s name and phone number during the order process and we will reach out to them on your behalf.   Make sure to include your order number, name and date of birth.
I have a strong prescription. Will you place my order?
Unfortunately, we do not fill prescriptions stronger than -10.00 or +6.00 sphere for optical products nor prescriptions stronger than -4.00 and +4.00 for our NYS Collection ELITE sunglasses.

What do I need to provide to fulfill my optical order?
Prior to your order, please visit your eye doctor and have your current and valid eyeglasses prescription readily available. Please make sure this prescription is not for contact lenses. An eyeglass prescription will include measurements for your sphere (SPH), cyclinder(CYL) and axis. If you use multifocal lens, you will also have a measurement for ADD. In addition to your prescription, ask you eye doctor to measure your pupillary distance (PD). Your PD is the distance in millimeters between your pupils, and is very important in matching your prescription to our frames.
How long will delivery take?
After your prescription is verified by our customer service department and no adjustments are needed, estimated time of delivery is 10 days.  You may login into your account to view the status of your order.
I have a question about my order or entering my prescription online, can someone assist me?
We’d love to help you!  Our knowledgeable representatives are available to assist you Monday – Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm EST.  You can call us at 732.429.1500 or email us at lbellardino@nyscollection.com. Emails will be answered within one (1) business day.
Can I order non-prescription glasses?
Sure!  If you love a frame (and why wouldn’t you?), you can order it without a prescription.  It will come with polycarbonate lenses and offer scratch protection, Anti-Reflective Coating as well as 100% UV Protection.  The cost for non-prescription glasses is $95.
I know I can purchase glasses online, but where else can I buy them?
In addition to our online store, our eyewear is also available at participating NYS Collection Eyewear retail locations throughout the country.
What forms of payment do you accept for prescription eyewear?
All major credit (American Express, Visa, MasterCard and Discover) as well as prepaid debit cards are accepted.  We do not accept cash, checks or money orders.

Do you offer a protection plan?
Basic Protection Plan (no fee):
  • One time replacement under the manufacturer’s warranty for defective frames for one year from original date of purchase. Your replacement must be the same frame and same prescription lenses.
Extended Protection Plan (additional $35):
  • In addition to the coverage offered under the Basic Protection Plan, the Extended Protection Plan offers 50% off the original retail cost up to two years from the original date of purchase for any reason, including excessive wear and damage (great for kids!).
  • If you lose your glasses within two years of the original date of purchase,  you can replace the same frame and same prescription lenses at 50% off their original retail cost (a one-time benefit).

What types of lenses are used?
Single Vision Lenses:
  • Polycarbonate lenses (impact resistant)
  • Anti-scratch and anti-reflective coating
  • 100% UV Protection
  • At no extra cost
Digital Progressive Lenses:
  • No line lenses for use at all distances including distance, computer, and reading.
  • Digitally produced HD Lenses provide greater visual comfort and wider fields of vision than standard progressive lenses.
  • Polycarbonate lenses (impact resistant)
  • Anti-scratch and anti-reflective coating
  • 100% UV Protection
  • At no extra cost
I know your glasses come with an anti-reflective (AR) coating, but there are other online retailers that provide premium AR. What makes it premium?
Most premium anti-reflective coatings include a "hydrophobic" surface layer that prevents water spots from forming and makes the lenses easier to clean.  Some AR coatings also include an "oleophobic" surface layer that repels skin oils and makes it easier to remove smudges from the lenses.  Our AR coating is an ultra-premium coating which offers each of these features, as well as advanced scratch and smudge resistance.
How do your photochromic lenses differ from Transitions?
Photochromic lenses darken when exposed to UV light as well as light indoors.  The lenses are activated by ultraviolet light. They will not however darken behind the protection of your windshield, so they are not suited for use as driving sunglasses.  Photochromic lenses don’t get quite as dark as polarized sunglasses outdoors, nor do they get perfectly clear when they lighten.
Do you offer polarized prescription sunglasses?
Yes!  Polarized prescription sunglasses are great because you can wear your favorite frames with your prescription.   Polarization is a filter on lenses that will reduce glare and haze.
Do you offer bifocals or just progressive lenses?
Given the advances in HD Digital Progressive lens technology, we no longer offer bifocals.  Progressive lenses are no line lenses for use at all distances including distance, computer, and reading.   Our progressive lenses are digitally produced HD lenses providing greater visual comfort and wider fields of vision than standard progressive lenses.

Do you accept vision insurance?
Although we do not accept vision insurance, we will provide you with an itemized receipt which you can submit to your insurance carrier for reimbursement depending on your particular plan.
